This page answers some of the Frequently Asked Questions.
What if my mattress is more than 10 inches thick? There are now Extended Length Uprights available for mattresses that are more than 10 inches thick. The Extended Length Uprights are available for no additional charge. When you go to the order page, you will have a choice of ordering either the REGULAR length, or the EXTENDED length. For more information, go to the Specifications page.
The Rotor on the Hubs will rotate, but will not lock in place at 0 and +-90 degrees. The Hub must be completely installed on the Lower Support (the flat panel) in order for the Hub locking mechanism to work. Install the Hub completely onto the Lower Support until the tabs on the Hub clip around the Lower Support. A detailed picture of this is shown on the Assembly page.
Can I move the bar out of the way during the day? Yes. The cross bar assembly slides up and down and locks at one inch intervals. The hubs on each end also rotate and lock at 90 degree intervals. During the day, you can just push the cross bar down, or rotate the hubs down. At night, just pull the bar up, or rotate the hubs up. Personally, I just leave mine up. After a while, when you get use to seeing it on your bed, why bother putting it down?
What if I fall on the Toe-Tent? At some point in time, you WILL fall on the cross bar. The Toe-Tent was specifically designed with collapsibility in mind. The Upright Supports will slide down in the hubs, and the hubs will rotate in the direction of the fall. The sectional design of the cross bar assembly allows it to vary its length during a fall. If worst comes to worst, the rotors are designed to break off. It should be noted that the cross bar assembly is NOT designed to support a person, and should never be used as a railing.
What if I don't sleep on my back? Most people do not sleep in one position during the night. The layout of muscles in the human body is such that they cannot all be rested in any one position. You have to move around at night. At some point, you will be on your back, meaning that you will spend some hours every day getting you feet twisted sideways. As far as not wanting to fall asleep on your back at night, maybe there is a reason for that. Maybe you could never quite put your finger on the reason, but maybe you don't like having your feet twisted sideways while you are trying to fall asleep. Coincidence or conspiracy? You decide.
I have trouble sliding the Plastic Hose over the Rod. Use a bar of hand soap to put soapy water down the Hose and on the Rod. This will allow you to push the Hose over the Rod. You may have to use hand towels to grip the Hose and Rod, as they may also be slippery. When you are pushing the Hose over the Rod, make sure to grip the Hose where it is not covering the Rod. When you compress the Hose onto the Rod, it will cause the Hose to expand, which will make it easier to slide. Remember, you are trying to PUSH the Hose onto the Rod; NOT PULL it, NOT SLIDE it, but PUSH it. When the soap dries, it will act like glue to keep things from sliding. If the time ever comes when you need to remove the Rod from the Hose, the soap will still be present inside the Hose. Simply run water down the Hose, and the soap will become slippery. Again, the Hose gets pushed off the Rod, not pulled.
Fitted and unfitted sheets and the OPTIONAL sheet clips. The Toe-Tent will use up some of the length of a fitted top sheet, and thereby pull the sheet lower than usual. A 'fitted' top sheet should not be 'fitted' on to the Toe-Tent (the sheet will come loose). I will include two cylindrical sheet clips with the Toe-Tent, if you have fitted top sheets, and if you request the sheet clips (they are free). These clips are placed on the coil running along the bottom of the top mattress. This is shown below. For a non-fitted (regular) top sheet, the clips are not necessary, and are not really recommended. For a fitted top sheet, the clips should be placed in approximately the positions shown. The top sheet can be secured in place to the bottom of the Mattress (not to the top of the Box Spring). To request the optional, free sheets clips, include a small note with your order. After you have entered your credit card information, there is a section titled "Add Comments To Your Order". Just write a little "please send sheet clips" message in this section, and I will include them with your order.
