IT'S PRETTY EASY TO PUT A TOE-TENT TOGETHER                  CREATOR OF THE WORLD FAMOUS SLEEPTYIME TOE-TENT

This page contains the assembly instructions.

To make sure you have all of your parts, use this link to go to the Parts List page   >>>>>>

The only tool required to assemble the Toe-Tent is a knife or cutting tool. The Toe-Tent uses a piece of plastic hose, which must be cut to fit, depending on the size of the bed. The cutting tool should be able to make a straight, clean cut in the plastic hose. It may also be necessary to use a bar of hand soap to lubricate the plastic Hose so that it can be slid over the Aluminum Rod. Please see the "Frequently Asked Questions" page for information about sliding the Hose over the Rod. The ‘Joiner Pins’ must be pressed together, and a small hammer is helpful.

0) Fold the bedding away from the foot of the bed. Fold the top sheet away from the foot of the bed. This is your work area. If there is a fitted sheet on the mattress, leave the sheet in place.

1) Lay out the 'Lower Supports', the 'Joiner' and the five 'Joiner Pins' as shown below.

THESE PIECES MAKE UP THE THE LOWER SUPPORT ASSEMBLY

2) The length of the Lower Support Assembly must first be adjusted to fit the mattress, then the length must be fixed in place. This is done by pinning the Lower Supports into the Joiner using the Joiner Pins. The Lower Supports slide into the ends of the Joiner, one on top, one on the bottom. The identical Joiner Pins fit into each other, one on top, one on the bottom, thru the lined up holes. The Joiner Pins should be pressed together as firmly as possible, or tapped together using a hammer. For re-sizing the assembly, they can be removed at a later date using any small tool.

3) Generally, mattresses are 'Single', 'Full', 'Queen' or 'King'. If the mattress is not one of these common sizes, the Toe-Tent can adjust to mattress widths from 35 to 77 inches. Use the table below to find the correct combination of holes to achieve the desired width.

4) After the pins have been secured, the Hubs must be installed. The two Hubs slide down onto the Lower Supports, one on either side of the bed, as shown below. The Hub has two locking tabs on the bottom. The Hub must be slid down until the locking tabs lock onto the Lower Support, as shown below. NOTE: The 90 degree Hub rotation/locking mechanism for the Rotor will not function correctly until the Hub is installed and locked onto the Lower Support.

5) The Lower Assembly can now be placed between the Box Spring and the Mattress. The Toe-Tent does not need to be placed at the end of the bed, but should be positioned according to the height of the person using it.

NOTE: The 'Length' value that you will use for the Cross Bar Assembly MUST be the same 'Length' value that you just used for the Lower Support Assembly.

6) The Cross Bar Assembly consists of one 36 inch aluminum tube, one 20 inch aluminum tube, one 30 inch aluminum rod, and one piece of plastic hose. Depending on the size of the mattress, different combinations of bars and tubes will be used. For any mattress size other than 'Queen', it will be necessary to cut the plastic hose to a particular size. Parts which are not used for a particular sized assembly can be stored next to the Lower Support Assembly, between the mattress and box spring. These components will be out of the way, but will be readily available if the Toe-Tent should ever need to be resized in the future.

7) For a 'Single' size bed, use the 30 inch rod and the 20 inch tube. The plastic hose must be cut to a length of 13 inches, as shown on the chart below. For a mattress that is not exactly a 'Single', use the chart below.

For a 'Single' size bed, use the rod, the short tube, and the hose. The hose is to be cut to the length shown on the chart.

Screw the threaded end of the Rod into the Upright Support. Slide the cut piece of Hose over the Rod, all the way down to the Upright. Screw the threaded end of the Tube into the other Upright. Slide the Rod into the Tube. It should look as shown:

8) For a 'Full' sized bed, use the 30 inch rod and the 36 inch tube. The plastic hose must be cut to a length of 14.8 inches, as shown on the chart below. For a mattress that is not exactly a 'Full', use the chart below.

For a 'Full' size bed, use the rod, the long tube, and the hose. The hose is to be cut to the length shown on the chart.

Screw the threaded end of the Rod into the Upright Support. Slide the cut piece of Tube over the Rod, all the way down to the Upright. Screw the threaded end of the Tube into the other Upright. Slide the Rod into the Tube. The assembly should look as shown:

9) For a 'Queen', 'California King', 'King', or other larger sized bed, use the 20 inch tube, the 36 inch tube, and the 30 inch rod. The plastic hose must be cut to a length of 0, 10, or 16 inches, as shown on the chart below. For a mattress that is not exactly a 'Queen', 'King', or 'California King', use the chart below. NOTE: For a 'Queen' sized bed, the plastic hose is NOT necessary, i.e. the hose length is zero.

For a 'Queen', 'King', or 'California King' size bed, use the rod, both tubes, and the hose. The hose is to be cut to the length shown on the chart.

Screw the threaded end of both Tubes into the Uprights. Slide the hose over the Rod until it is in the middle of the Rod. Slide both ends of the Rod into the Tubes. The final assembly will be as shown below.

10) The Cross Bar Assembly can now be placed into the Hub Rotors as shown:

11) The two Sheet Clips (optional) are attached to the coil of the mattress as shown in the above picture. These clips can be used for both fitted and non-fitted top sheets. For fitted top sheets, it is not always necessary to have the corner seam of the sheet going around the bends in the Upright Supports. Sheets should be adjusted so they cover the person sleeping in the bed, but are not stretched so tight as to damage them, or so tight that they cause the Upright Supports to slide down in the Rotor, or the Rotor to turn in the Hub. These sheet clips are OPTIONAL, and will be included with your order at no charge, but ONLY if you request them. After you have entered your credit card information, there will be a small section titled "Add comments to your order". If you would like the optional sheet clips, just add a little note in this section. Again, these clips are primarily for fitted top sheets, and are not really necessary or desirable for regular non-fitted top sheets. Generally speaking, it is best to use non-fitted top sheets with your Toe-tent.

NOW THAT WASN'T SO HARD, WAS IT?

12) The Upright Assembly does not have to be extended to its maximum height. In, fact, the lower is it, the more stable and unobtrusive it will be. When you are sleeping in bed, your feet do not point straight up. They will flop to the side under their own gravity. For most people, the Crossbars should be about 7 or 8 inches above the mattress. The result is shown below.

Saving the Spare Parts for Future Use

Any parts (tube, hose, and joiner pins) that are left over should be stored with the Toe-Tent. These parts can be placed on top of the Lower Support Assembly (the Joiner). This way, the parts will be available at any time in the future, if the Toe-Tent is ever moved to another bed and requires resizing.
